Water Flossers aka Oral Irrigators

Water Flossers aka Oral Irrigators

Water flossers are a great addition to your home dental hygiene care routine. It is formally known as an oral irrigator and the way it functions is by spraying water in between teeth in the interproximal space dislodging soft plaque, food, and bacteria. To use it, lean over the sink and point the tip in between teeth and slowly move between each tooth, rotating your wrist. It is best to use this after brushing, twice a day. A common brand of water flossers is Dental Oral Irrigator®

The following information has been provided by researchers studying the Dental Oral Irrigator® Water Flosser.

The Dental Oral Irrigator® Water Flosser in conjunction with brushing with a manual toothbrush has been shown to be 3.1 times more effective than just brushing with a manual toothbrush. Already using an electric toothbrush? That’s great! But the Dental Oral Irrigatork® Water Flosser is more effective (approximately by one third) in reducing bleeding around the gums, reducing inflammation of the gum tissues, and plaque reduction when used in conjunction with an electric toothbrush.

Did you know that if you had a history of periodontal care, including deep cleanings like scaling and root planing that you can achieve better results and improvement by using the Dental Oral Irrigator®. The improvement is measured on three factors – bleeding when measuring your gingival probing depth, a decrease in probing depths, and an improvement in the clinical attachment levels.

There are multiple models of Dental Oral Irrigator® available. For your convenience, there are cordless portable and countertop stationary models available. It's important that after purchasing the Dental Oral Irrigator® to frequently rinse the basin of water and allow for proper drying between uses.  Water flossers are recommended to be used in conjunction with your daily routine of brushing with an electronic toothbrush and flossing.
